You are highly welcome to this week’s episode on our 5-week quest in overcoming the hurdles in writing. Last week, we were able to discuss why exposure is needed in your career as a writer and also how to go about getting the right exposure. You can catch up here https://farajacraftcircle.com.ng/blog/getting-the-right-exposure-as-a-writer-overcoming-the-hurdles-in-writing-03/
Associating with a community is something most upcoming writers struggle it. Some wish to reach out but are scared of rejection, some don’t know why to reach out or even where to reach out to.
WHY DO I NEED A COMMUNITY?
As a writer, you need a community that will be there for you every step of the way. A community that understands your struggles, pains, and the intricacies of your art. Having a community helps you learn from the experiences of others. You do not have to go through the hard way, learn from the predecessors and pick the lessons needed for your journey.
HOW DO I KNOW THE COMMUNITY FOR ME?
A community is a group of people with common interests and goals. Hence, this should be your guiding point in choosing a community. Go for those that align with your values, goal, purpose, and of course love interest. Here are some questions to determine if that community is right for you?
- What does the community stand for?
- Does it align with my values, goals, and purpose?
- Will I advance on my course by joining this community or I’m just catching a cruise?
- Are my visions and that of the community in alignment?
- Do I have anyone I can look up to?
- Do I have anyone I can confide in?
- Will my writing become better by joining?
WHERE DO I GET A COMMUNITY?
To get a community, look around your environment, social media outlets, crosscheck with your friends and see if you could work something out. Above all, be open to unlearn, learn and relearn. Writing is vast! Writing is broad but you don’t have to lose your head while at it!
