Hey!
Welcome to today’s edition of our Owanbe Party. Here’s the link to our last party just in case you missed it https://farajacraftcircle.com.ng/blog/the-owanbe-book-party/. Today we’ll be discussing on how to keep your reader’s attention on your works. So let’s dive right into it!
WHAT MAKES A GOOD PIECE
Most times, when we pick up a book we either stay with it till the end or drop it after some time. The reason for that may vary but often we say things like “I’m not enjoying this book” or “It’s not flowing again” and other sentences like this.
An average reader wants to be glued with the book. He/she wants something that can keep their attention for the required time and that will determine whether it is a good piece to them or not.
This is when you as the author comes in. There are no hard and fast rules as to what makes a good piece but here are some pointers:
ORIGINALITY
Let your words be yours! Don’t plagiarize. Present what you’re trying to say in your own words.
FREE FROM GRAMMATICAL ERRORS
Your works should be devoid of errors. Lots of errors in a piece is a huge turn-off for the average reader. No one wants to read a book then go looking for pain relief afterward. Always invest in an editorial team and you will surely be glad you did.
Invest in your works as much as you can!
ATTRACTIVE COVER
The saying “do not judge a book by its cover” doesn’t relate to the writing sphere. The cover of your book is the first point of contact with your audience and first impressions as they say matters a lot in this regard. As you are investing in a good editorial team, invest as much into the designing aspect as well. Believe me, many people won’t wait to check out what you’ve written if the cover repels them.
ESSENCE
This is the last point I will be considering today. It’s the last but it cannot be over-emphasized as this is the core of your writing career. At the end of reading your piece, there should be a message that resonates with your audience. A take-home; something to hold unto.
I wish you a successful writing life and thanks for being a part of this journey with me. I love you and I’m rooting for you.
See you next week and May the good Lord keep you and yours till I come your way again.
