OVERCOMING THE HURDLES IN WRITING 03: A 5-WEEK QUEST WITH THE OWANBE BOOK PARTY

It’s a beautiful Saturday over here.
Welcome to this week’s episode on our 5-week quest in overcoming the hurdles in writing. Last week we were able to discuss how to cope with the blues. You can catch up here https://farajacraftcircle.com.ng/blog/overcoming-the-hurdles-in-writing-02-dealing-with-the-blues /

Today we will be discussing another vital hurdle which have to do with finance. As a writer, money is what you will need in it’s entirety. Getting your tools, enrolling for courses and some other things involve payment of one kind or the other.

Write with your budget!

One lucky thing about writing is that you don’t have to have it all before starting. You don’t have to have an array of resources before you start. Just start! Pick up that pen, pick up that paper, pick up that smartphone and jumpstart your career. All you need is the will to write and all will fall into place.

My Story

When I felt the urge to write my first piece about four years ago, all I had was a smartphone that chooses when to operate. It decides when to be on and when to be off so I’m technically at its mercy. I had no choice but to use one of my old leaflets just so Atila could leave me alone. (Yes, my characters can be so demandingšŸ˜).

A few months later, my mum got me a new phone as my val gift. You could imagine the frenzied excitement! I transferred the story which has metamorphosed into THE WISH (get a copy here: https://farajacraftcircle.com.ng/product/the-wish/) onto my new device and felt fulfilled.

After finishing the story and feeling fly, I started on THE ILLUSION (get a copy here: https://farajacraftcircle.com.ng/product/the-illusion/ ) and like a dream my phone got stolen. Just three months and back to square one. Then, I felt this writing this was not for me.

Enough of the backstory, today I am grateful I was able to look beyond all those difficulties and forge ahead. So the bottom line is just do something while you can. During the periods I couldn’t access a mobile device, I didn’t give up on writing. So you shouldn’t too!

But What should I do?

I know for some of us writing the old-fashioned way can be very demanding. But one thing you should always remember is that there is a way for every level you are. All you have to do is look deep into your situation and fish out what works best for you. You are not alone in the tide, I think we’ll start here next week.

Feel free to reach out and let’s rub minds together.

We have just 2 more hurdles to get out and something sweet is cooking already. I’ll see you this same venue next week.

Till we meet again, may the good Lord bless you and yours.
