Yippee! It’s the fourth week and my adrenaline hasn’t dropped one bit.
Welcome to this week’s episode of our 5-week quest in overcoming the hurdles in writing. Last week we were able to discuss how to cope with financial challenges, You can catch up here https://farajacraftcircle.com.ng/blog/overcoming-the-hurdles-in-writing-03-a-5-week-quest-with-the-owanbe-book-party/
Today, we will be discussing another vital hurdle which is getting the right exposure as a writer. One thing most upcoming writers fail to realize is that no one will blow their horn for them! No one will reach out on your behalf! Even if they do, not as you would have done it!
One skill all writers need is courage. It takes courage to send out your piece to an outfit, a publishing firm, or even to go indie. You have to harness all you can and put yourself out there. Enough of hiding and shivering.
Always Optimize your Bio!
HOW DO I GET THE RIGHT EXPOSURE?
Introduce yourself as a writer with your full chest, you never know who might need your skill. Recently, I signed up for a program organized by a friend. In this program, we were asked to introduce ourselves and of course, when it was my turn, I did. That night, I gained 5 new contacts. People who reached out based on what they saw and loved. The next day, another three from the same group! Bear in mind that I didn’t even include any portfolio link or such. Just a few paragraphs and boom! More colleagues already on my list.
If I hadn’t left my shell that night ( and when I say a shell, trust me I ~have~ had a very thick one), no one would have known what I’m capable of doing. Like the saying goes that a closed mouth is a closed destiny. Dear Upcoming creative, be bold about your art! If your current circle does not appreciate it, then leave them to their ignorance. You’re just a step, a smile, or even a text away from those who will treasure you.
WHAT TO DO?
You see, being creative is an amazing thing, I mean the most amazing stuff ever! You can change a situation into something else. The more you exercise your abilities, the more they come. Also, make sure your introduction is precise and succinct. Let’s get a feel of you right from there. I’m going to say this one more time: Always Optimize your Bio! It’s your first contact with the world and I’m sure you would want them coming back time and time again.
If your current circle does not appreciate it, leave them to their ignorance
Let’s begin with that right away! Drop an introduction and let’s see how many people can be discovered. I’ll go first.
